Little Tykes

A well-liked and well-known brand for children’s play equipment, Little Tikes first started its operations in 1979 as Iron Mountain Forge or IMF. It was located near Lesterville, MO campground, and because its creations of fire rings, grill products, and picnic tables were better, they soon became recognized as the best choice for campground supplies.

Their products were exceedingly superior compared to other commercially available products at that time. These first products speedily gained attention in nearby areas, and soon after, its first order came from the State of Arkansas Parks and Recreation Department.

In 1980, IMF moved to a bigger warehouse in Farmington, Missouri with only five employees, one trailer, and one truck. Their fist year of operation gained them sales of more than a million dollars. They continuously grew, moved to another bigger location, and added its first “plastic rotational molding machine” in 1990. This machine made it possible for them to manufacture its first “one-piece spiral slides” that won the “Product of the Year” award.

Later, the company purchased “Wood Builder” and acquired “Rubbermaid”. Teams, technologies, and trends converged into a new business, which is now known as Little Tikes Commercial Play Systems –a well-known brand in the industry.
